Ambleside Sports Club Nuneaton occasionally hosts special fundraising and community quiz nights, such as events organized by the Nuneaton Hockey Club and local community groups, rather than a fixed weekly schedule.

### Football at Ambleside
Thursday Football
**About Thursday Football**
We are a group of like-minded chaps who get together for a weekly game of football – not walking but three-touch.
Weather-permitting, we play every Thursday, from 7.30pm for an hour, on the tennis court area at Ambleside. We then enjoy a post-session social pint. Numbers vary on availability, so it can be four, five, six or seven a side and anyone who turns up can play. Ages currently range from early-30s to mid-60s.

Saturday Football
**About Saturday Football**
Our Saturday team competes in the Leicestershire County Football League.
After becoming established just three seasons ago, we have enjoyed remarkable success; achieving back-to-back promotions and clinching the league title in 1922-23.
We are always on the look-out for new players as we aim to continue our progress and currently have a great mix of young and experienced lads, ranging in age from 17 to 39.

**About Nuneaton Hockey Club**
Founded in 1912, ours is one of the oldest clubs in the country – we’ve played hockey in Nuneaton for well over 100 years! We are a family orientated Club which balances our long history with a modern, forward thinking approach.
Our motto “Pret d’accomplir” or “Ready to Achieve”, sums up the positive spirit of our teams. We are passionate about hockey in all its forms and have 3 mens teams, 3 ladies teams and an active juniors section.
Hockey runs all year round with league activity October – March and Summer Hockey May – September.

**About Our Netball Club**
Our home ground is split between Ambleside Sports Club and Pingles Leisure Centre. We currently have five senior teams playing in the Coventry and District Netball Association League. We are affiliated to England Netball, who have awarded us “Silver” club accreditation. League matches are played on Saturdays and our kit is navy and sky blue.

Ambleside Cricket Club
**Ambleside Cricket Club**
Ambleside Cricket Club welcomes any cricket lover, of any ability, to come and join us. We are proud to have four Saturday teams, two Thursday teams, a Ladies team and a thriving junior section, with regular structured training sessions and matches for all.
The club boasts a rich history of success, accolades and trophies. The Saturday 1st XI have flourished in recent years, having secured 3 successive promotions (2023, 2024 and 2025); they will compete in Division 2 for the 2026 season. Furthermore, the Thursday 1st XI are three-time winners of the coveted Tommy Hilditch Cup (1978, 2013 and 2022 respectively).
The Saturday 1st XI and 2nd XI play at Ambleside Cricket Club; our clubhouse and facilities are second to none. The Saturday 3rd XI and 4th XI play at Higham Village Cricket Club, a short drive from the main club.

Ambleside Bowling Club
**Ambleside Bowling Club**
The club is an independent section of Higham Lane Leisure Association, who are the lessees of the ground, and all members of the Ambleside Bowling Club are registered members of the Association. There are mixed and ladies-only teams, while friendly, social and league matches take place during the April-September season.

Sat–Sun : 9am – Dusk

History:
In 1987 a local residents group accepted responsibility for a playing area off Ambleside Way that had previously been used as a company sports ground. High am Lane Leisure Association was formed to develop the whole site for community use. Within this was a bowling green that had been neglected and used for a number of purposes, including youngsters playing football and cricket and riding ponies.
In 1989 a number of people realised the potential of the green and decided to renovate it and the following year Ambleside Bowling Club was formed. A vast amount of work was required as the surface was in a poor condition and pitted with soft patches caused by pony hooves, all of which had to be dug out and replaced by hand. The ditches had all but disappeared and required rebuilding and hedges had to be cut back and some removed, plus removing numerous weeds from both the surroundings and the green itself. The machinery to help in the work was acquired from whatever source was available and after a while sufficient funds were raised to purchase a grass cutter.
Shortmat Bowls
**About Shortmat Bowls**
We are a mixed group of men and women, aged between 30 and 80, who play shortmat bowls throughout the winter months at various clubs in Nuneaton, Hinckley and Tamworth. As part of Nuneaton Shortmat Bowls, which has two divisions, we are currently in league 1.
There are also singles, pairs and triples competitions throughout the season, which any individual can take part in, while the team contests cup matches.
We are open to new players of any age and although all teams are competitive there is also a friendly atmosphere during games.
There is no dress code but any player who joins will be provided with a club tee-shirt.

Ambleside Table Tennis
**About Ambleside Table Tennis**
Our table tennis club has been running for around 15 years. We are affiliated to Table Tennis England (TTE) and play in the Nuneaton Table Tennis League Winter and Summer competitions as well as various cup events.
We are a club for all ages and at one time were the primary club for developing juniors in the area, due to training sessions that used to take place at Higham Lane School. This, unfortunately, stopped a few years ago, but we are hoping to restart some training at the new pavilion, now being built at Ambleside.
We currently have 28 players, but this currently includes only one junior member, so more younger players are welcomed.
At the moment our match nights are Tuesday and Wednesday.
